Helen and Pauls wedding was in October, a beautiful time of year to get married - the trees still have their golden leaves and the sun stays low, with a gorgeous golden glow. It was such a fun day, Helen, Paul and all their wonderful family and friends were so warm and welcoming and had the best and biggest smiles all day long.
Dunglass Estate
As you drive up the winding road through towering Scots pine trees towards the Dunglass Estate, you’ll quickly discover why this historic venue is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Scotland. Located on the East Lothian and Scottish Borders boundary, just outside Edinburgh, Dunglass Estate offers a breathtaking blend of history, nature, and romance—perfect for couples dreaming of a timeless Scottish wedding. From its dramatic 15th-century church ruins to its sweeping woodland and coastal views, a wedding at Dunglass Estate feels like you've stepped away from daily life where you can fully absorb the joy and celebrations of your wedding. It is a secluded, special place.
Bridal Preparations
Helen, along with her mum, sister and her closest friends enjoyed a very relaxed morning full of laughter and fun. I always arrive a good few hours before the ceremony, this allows plenty of time to get to know everyone and have good chats before starting to take pictures. It puts everyone at ease and helps people relax.
Groom Preparations
Just a stones throw away from where Helen got ready, nestled on the edge of the forrest is the most wonderful tree house. As I arrived, Paul, ( along with is Dad, Helens Dad, his bro and two cousins ) were enjoying an ice cold beer and a wee kick about with a footy.
Emotional first look with Mum and Dad. Helen's Mum and Dad are so sweet and radiated with joy and pride. It was such a special moment to photograph them seeing Helen in her dress for the first time.
Time to get married...let the Ceremony begin.
The star of the estate is undoubtedly the Dunglass Collegiate Church. Perched above the North Sea, its ancient stone walls, tall open windows, and surrounding greenery create a romantic, timeless setting. Its so lovely to photograph guests arrive and excitedly chat as they walk towards the Church.
Confetti fun, fizz and hugs!
There was more confetti in peoples hair than thrown in the air...haha. I love this part of a wedding, the guests were so excited to see Helen and Paul and to shower them with love ( and confetti ) . We then heading down to the courtyard, the perfect place for fizz and hugs.
With the sun shining, the fizz flowing and conversations drifting easily through the courtyard, the atmosphere was relaxed, joyful and beautifully unhurried. In between glass refills and tasting delicious canapés, we got some gorgeous family photos.
Pre dinner walk in the setting sun.
Short and sweet is the name of the game when it comes to couples photos. I feel it's so important to spend as much time with your guests ( unless of course you need some space from the social, you time is so important too) We took a short walk out of the courtyard to enjoy the gorgeous golden light. Dunglass Estate has so much outdoor space, it's an absolute treat!
Speeches full of laughter and so much love.
I love this part of the day - it is so lovely to hear people share love and kindness towards each other and these speeches were simply wonderful. Everyone spoke from the heart with plenty of humour and plenty of tears too. The wedding guests had a great time, as did I.
10 minutes for a quick post dinner
stroll and to enjoy the beautiful grounds.
Party time & Sparkler fun.
Before the dancing started, everyone popped outside for some sparkler fun. With blow torches at the ready, the amazing staff at Dunglass Estate made sure it all went smoothly and safely. It was super fun and a nice wee bit of fresh air before the party got into full swing. The dance floor had so much energy and as always I was right in the middle having the best time with everyone.
Party!
As we say our goodbyes, we made the most of the lovely festoon lights, I love these pics, what a gorgeous day!
